Veneers

Dental veneers – also known as laminates – are used to cosmetically enhance the appearance of one or more teeth. Veneers are very thin, porcelain or resin shells that are customized for a desirable color and shape. They are bonded to the surface of the teeth to reshape broken, misshapen or irregular teeth, as well as provide a solution for discolored teeth that do not respond to traditional whitening treatments. Patients with veneers typically achieve a natural tooth appearance that is well-tolerated by the gums and also resistant to future stains.

Did you know…
that dental veneers are a conservative way of completely making over your smile? In fact, veneers are a go-to cosmetic procedure that has become popular with celebrities who want a brighter and more symmetrical smile. Miley Cyrus, Hilary Duff and Ben Affleck are just some of Hollywood’s elite who have seen a cosmetic dentist for laminates. Fortunately, affordability and accessibility make it easy for anyone to get dental veneers – including patients.

Veneers vs. Crowns

Veneers and crowns are both dental procedures that can enhance the look and improve the function of your teeth. The main difference is that a veneer covers only the front of your tooth and a crown covers the entire tooth.

Whether a veneer or a crown is suitable for you will depend on the condition of your teeth and what you’re trying to fix. Veneers are mainly used for cosmetic purposes, but they are also suitable for treating minor dental problems, like chips and cracks and small fractures. As they require less enamel reduction, they are a more conservative option, so dentists will always recommend this option in the first place. However,
if the tooth has been extensively affected by decay or dental trauma, the dentist will have no choice but to indicate a crown.

Both crowns and veneers are color-matched to your teeth, and our dentists work hard to make your restorations almost imperceptible.

Am I a candidate for dental veneers or laminates at River Landing Dentistry?

Dental veneers may be right for you if you are looking for an alternative to crowns and caps. Veneers can help you if you have gaps between your teeth or teeth that are broken, chipped, irregularly shaped or misaligned. To find out more about whether dental veneers are right for you, contact a cosmetic dentist to schedule a consultation.

What should I expect when I get my dental veneers?

Before dental veneers can be placed on the teeth, the surface of the teeth must be prepared for bonding. After administering a local anesthetic, your dentist will buff away approximately half a millimeter from the surface of the teeth. You’ll then bite into a mold that will be used to form your veneers in a dental lab. When the veneers are ready, you’ll be asked to return to have them fitted, bonded and adjusted for shape and color.

Will I need to follow any post-treatment care instructions?

There is no special care required for dental veneers, and normal brushing and flossing can be resumed immediately. Because veneers are usually placed over the course of two appointments, it is normal to experience some sensitivity between the first and second visit when the teeth have been reduced in preparation for bonding. Dr. Zechmann will also recommend an occlusal guard to protect your beautiful veneers from clenching and grinding while you sleep.

Teeth whitening

Over time our teeth tend to become more yellowish, discolored or stained. Whether this is from aging, smoking, coffee, or any other habits or foods, a brand new, brighter smile is closer than you think! We offer our patients a safe and permanent solution with few to no side effects. Whitening your teeth is a straightforward procedure that can be completed in only one session!

Which teeth whitening treatment is right for me?

At River Landing Dentistry, we offer two different whitening treatments:

In-office whitening session: We offer GLO (Guided Light Optics) Whitening in the office. This treatment combines the power of G.L.O.® technology with warming heat and light and high concentration professional strength whitening gel that can only be applied by a dental professional. GLO gets you your whitest, brightest smile in under an hour, without pain!

At-home whitening kit: These treatments are great for those who want to maintain their whitening in between in-office appointments. Take home whitening is also great for those who want to do a full treatment in the comfort of their own home. Results vary for each person. Teeth that are already naturally a whiter/brighter shade will not have as noticeable results as those that are duller. Diet and routine also affect results. Anything that will stain a white T-shirt will stain your teeth. Ask a doctor at River Landing Dentistry if you are a good candidate for teeth whitening.

Should I whiten my teeth?

When growing older, your smile starts showing signs of long-term exposure to things that make teeth look dull, yellow or stained. Different foods, coffee, cigarettes, wine, medicines, even illnesses or those missed dental cleanings – all these things contribute to teeth yellowing and staining over time.

The good news is that today’s teeth whitening treatments provide a solution that helps bring back those beautiful white teeth. If you are tired of hiding your smile but still have some questions about teeth whitening, schedule a consultation at River Landing Dentistry. Our dentists will help you decide whether or not you should whiten your teeth!

Full Mouth Smile Makeovers

A smile makeover is a comprehensive dental treatment involving multiple procedures that mainly have cosmetic purposes. It is the perfect alternative for those patients who have healthy teeth but are unhappy about how they look. If you are one of those patients, this treatment can transform your smile into a more bright and radiant one, boosting your confidence and making you excited about showing off your pearly whites!

What is Included in a Smile Makeover?

A smile makeover combines a variety of cosmetic dental procedures, including:

Teeth whitening, to brighten up discolored, stained or yellowish teeth.

Porcelain veneers, which are a thin, shell-like layer of porcelain that are placed over existing teeth that have flaws, such as chips, minor fractures, uneven size or discolored spots.

Braces or Invisalign, which can correct crooked, uneven and misaligned teeth.

Crowns, which can cover teeth that have major unattractive flaws.

Tooth-colored fillings

A tooth-colored filling is a dental restoration made of composite resin, a material used as an alternative to amalgam (silver filling). This resin has excellent aesthetic properties: it closely mimics the shade and texture of natural enamel, and, in skilful hands, it can be almost imperceptible.

These fillings are an excellent cosmetic option for those patients who don’t like the idea of having silver restorations in their mouths. These restorations are strongly bonded to the tooth through a chemical process and have a great success rate.

Fillings are indicated in teeth that have been affected by dental decay or trauma. Ideally, this material should replace up to 50% of the tooth structure – if the damage is more extensive, dentists might indicate a dental crown.

What is composite resin bonding?

Composite resin bonding, also known as dental bonding, is a popular cosmetic procedure. In essence, the dentist chooses a resin that matches the natural enamel and applies it to an existing tooth to improve its appearance. This material is hardened with UV light and then polished to get outstanding aesthetic results!

How do I care for new tooth-colored fillings?

We recommend soft foods and liquids on the day of your composite fillings. Still, you may chew with your fillings as soon as the anesthetic completely wears off – the restorations are fully set when you leave the office. Besides that, we only advise our patients to have good oral hygiene and visit the office frequently for examinations.
